Keep Bolivar Beautiful Mission Statement

The mission of Keep Bolivar Beautiful is to educate and engage the Bolivar Peninsula community to take responsibility for improving their environment through community and school education, beach and peninsula-wide clean-up events, beautification projects and programs to encourage our citizens and visitors to keep our peninsula beautiful.s

Keep Bolivar Beautiful Officers & Board Members

Carlis Danna Cole, president: Recipient of 2015 Galveston Daily News Hometown Hero Award for passionately spearheading several clean ups of the Bolivar Peninsula and enlisting help of other agencies. Also a Beach Guardian through the General Land Office’s Adopt-a-Beach for Bolivar Peninsula. Charter member of the P4 coalition for Galveston area, Plastic Pollution Prevention Partnership, working to reduce plastic pollution.

• 
Brenda Flanagan, vice president: Bolivar Peninsula Adopt-a-Beach coordinator for GLO. Also a Beach Guardian and coordinator of numerous clean-ups.  Former President of the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. Was named along with husband Larry Flanagan as Citizens of the Year by the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce in 2015. Volunteer for Texas Crab Festival, Stingaree Slam Fishing Tournament, golf tournament and golf cart poker run, all projects benefiting the Bolivar Peninsula community.

Nelva Maxey, secretary-treasurer: Assisted in numerous clean-ups and also owner of one the local bait camps. Long-time Bolivar Peninsula resident and proponent of a clean and beautiful Bolivar Peninsula.

Jan Kent, at-large board member: Publisher and editor of the Beach Triton and also founder of Jacob’s Ladder, created to assist men with addiction recovery. Men of Jacob’s Ladder helped extensively prepping barrels for the children’s trash barrel painting project. Provides community support with special projects. Also a long-time Bolivar Peninsula resident. Was named Outstanding Citizen by Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce in 2016.

• Claudia Perkins, at-large board member: Charter board member of Keep Arlington Beautiful. Designed KBB logo and provided initial T-shirts, hoodies, embroidered shirts and visors for the group. Board member of Arlington 4th of July Parade Association, Vice President of Arlington Historical Society, Secretary of Arlington Urban Ministries, former Board member of SHHS Alumni Association and Chairman of Trustees for Arlington's New World United Methodist Church. Bolivar Peninsula property owner. Is both a Beach Guardian and has adopted two miles of Texas Highway 87 through Adopt-a-Highway.

Special Awards

• Received a $3,000 Green Bag grant from H-E-B Central Market for a Beautification Trailer

• Received a contribution from Texas Crab Festival Charities for Beautification Trailer

• Named Gold Star Affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful
